Thank you for the great summary!
Besides all mentioned fears, there is another one where a friend of mine who is a professional coach pointed to while discussing why I am not starting a particular activity that I would like to do for a long time.
It is the fear of having success.
People who are stepping out of the comfort zone and start creating their own life are mentally prepared for failure, for losing everything, for being the outsider, and to begin again. But people are rarely prepared for having success. Having success would bring them even more out of their comfort zone. It would bring us to a situation we do most probably not know and where we do not know how to act and behave. We all had failures, and we know such situations. But we rarely know the contrary. And on a psychological level, this is a higher barrier than a failure.
Since then, I am asking myself always in such a situation
- “Why do you fear success?”
- “What would change if you would have success?”
And answering these two questions clears the way for the change.
