Thank you for sharing this advice!
Yes, I am one of the lucky ones that can go to bed and sleep. And I can sleep every daytime, and you could even place a power shovel next to my sleeping place, it does not bother me: When I want to sleep, then I am sleeping.
How am I doing this? Well, difficult to say because it is just working.
First, I do indeed not have any fixed bedtime. I am going to bed if I am sleepy. And I am also getting up early on weekends; thus, there is no change in my sleeping behavior during weekends or vacation time.
Second, I have the mindset that “when I want to sleep, then I am sleeping.”
Third, when I have restless thoughts, I am often reading a book. But these are books that are absolutely unrelated to the thoughts I have. I made good experience with children and teen books. It brings you back in a dream world which positively affects your mind.
I am also thinking of these thoughts like balloons: if a thought is coming to my mind, I am envisioning it as a balloon that flies away and disappears. After a while of training, the same happens with all these distracting thoughts.
I would not recommend watching TV. I would recommend working on the relaxation of your thoughts.
