Dear Devon.
Please change your perception. “Disabled”, “mentally ill”, “disorders”, “unfair advantage” — that’s all a wrong approach. But maybe that’s the difference between a psychologist and a mathematician 😉
I have some “non-standard features” — as I call it — that give me many advantages over most of the people in this world.
For example, I know how pleasant it is to sit in a quiet and dark room. Because one of the non-standard features is that we can hear, see and feel more tone, sound, colors, light, shading, tonality than the others. And instead of just seeing these overwhelming signals as a “disorder”, think about how to use them? I am still playing 3 instruments, collecting special colored vinyl of metal bands, had photo exhibitions and won an award, because of the subtle form and color compositions. All these non-standard features are precious. It is a rough diamond that just must be polished. Do this!
And yes, I do what I want to do in my life with the help of all my advantageous non-standard features. And I have learnt not to care about what the others are thinking about me. I turn the hard work into pleasure. That’s my approach.
